Together, we can improve nursing home

care in our community!

We’re members of the local community, senior advocates, and
nursing home caregivers working together to call on nursing
home operators to "Repair the Care" in their facilities.

Seniors at Risk at our Local Nursing Homes!

In March 2007, Pleasant Care Corporation – one of the state’s largest nursing home companies – filed for bankruptcy. Under Pleasant Care’s ownership, the facilities were in crisis.

Pleasant Care auctioned off most of its nursing homes to several new owners, a majority of whom in Los Angeles County are now taking away healthcare from their employees and have canceled union contracts. Caregivers in the homes are facing a crisis of their own as a result. Some are having to go without medication and other treatments they need for serious health conditions. Many current employees will be forced to find new jobs that provide health benefits.

This leads us to ask, who will be here to take care of the residents? The new owners have just made the worst decision they could possibly make towards retaining experienced caregivers who can provide quality care for residents. It’s a decision that suggests the situation in these nursing homes is likely to become much worse under their ownership.

As a vital healthcare asset to our community, we must ensure that these facilities meet all standards for quality care. Anything less jeopardizes the well being of their residents – our family members and loved ones.

We are calling on the new owners of former Pleasant Care facilities in our community to work with their employees to ensure that the homes are staffed with experienced caregivers who have all the tools they need to provide quality care for residents.
